African Footy

In Australia all matches are played on large cricket sized fields, featuring 18 players per team. Add another 4 reserve players per team, plus 6 umpires, and you need 50 people to play a match of traditional Australian football.

African Footy is designed to make it much easier for participants in Africa to enjoy playing the game, without the difficulty of trying to find a large enough field and recruit a small army in order to play.
All matches are 9-a-side and played on soccer or rugby sized grounds.

The reasons for developing a version of Aussie Rules that can be played on soccer and rugby fields is:

1. The lack of cricket sized fields in Africa is a major issue. As soccer and rugby fields are in plentiful supply it makes sense to be able to use them.

2. Recruits can learn a new game whilst in surrounds they are comfortable with.

3. Played on soccer fields, our schools program is mixed (boys & girls) and non-contact, therefore allowing for greater concentration on developing skills.
